FEBRUARY AND FROZEN

2/3/2015

The start of a new month It's February and myself ( Matt ) along with good friend ( Marc ) begin our week with a trip to our local still water In search of Carp

It's been very cold Indeed over the past Seven days and Just before turning In for the night on Sunday the weather app was checked and a quick glance out of the window was taken to see If mother nature was going to be kind to the pair of us over night and not play hard with her best friend Jack Frost during the wee small hours and put the mockers on our day

Their was a strong breeze blowing and the cloud was building up nicely, Things looked good so I ( Matt ) retired to bed reasonably confident, By 5.30 am I was up and about waiting with excitement for ( Marc ) to arrive before we loaded up the van and hit the road to the fishery

We arrived Just after 7.00 am but sadly things got off to a bad start, The lake owner told us that both lakes on the complex had froze over night, The wind had eased during the night and the temperature rapidly dropped by all means take a look he said

Their was a lid on It but after a short Inspection we found out the Ice was not as thick as It had been In recent weeks, After a short debate the Ice breaking began Two hours of hard work and we had both managed to create Two areas big enough to plonk Two rods a piece In at short range, Far from Ideal but at least we were fishing

Confident? being honest with you I was not ( Matt ) and neither was ( Marc ) and I think If anybody else had turned up and been greeted with the same conditions they would of turned around and headed for home?

With limited angling time failure Is never an option and when the Ice broke our determination Increased

Rods out and the kettle was on we sat back for what was going to be a long wait, This lovely Robin kept us amused through out the day no doubt the scent from my boilies kept him popping back on a regular basis

The rod tips were positioned to an angle on purpose, With the large amounts of Ice In the marginal areas and with a tight line keeping as much line off the surface In my opinion was essential
