December..... At this time of the year I do my traditional Angling Review 2021 has been a very poor year for yours truly on the videography front and in 2022 I'm hoping that will improve as I plan to put the written updates to one side and present to you a monthly video instead if all things go to plan? my monthly video updates in 2022 will be in a diary format, and the content will include footage from the sessions I do each month I'm really looking forward to getting back in front of the camera, and I hope to capture content which will be of interest to you all regarding 2021's Angling Review, you can now view it in it's entirety below Angling Review 2021..... All that's left to say is thanks so much for your support throughout 2021 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year November..... The updates posted in this blog detail my angling adventures throughout the year and this update is focused on the later stages of the Summer (2021) on my new Club lake I've been introducing my ever faithful Scopex Squid into this venue since late March, and I've been increasing the volume I introduce steadily as the months go by during June, July and August I was introducing at least 5kg a week, that may not seem a lot to some of you reading this update? but based on two short sessions a week that works out to 20kg a month after netting my first capture back in March and when Spring eventually decided to arrive I managed to nick the odd fish, but as soon as the temperature increased and I began to introduce more bait, my catch rate began to improve by mid June the carp in this venue were really getting their heads down on it, I was introducing my bait into various areas of the lake I must add and for very good reason not that I like to have a swim in mind before arriving at the venue, but if their is an area that I particularly fancy and it's occupied, I have other options knowing my next choice of swim has received some free offerings before hand the other factor is by spreading a bait around a venue gets the carp moving about with the hope they eventually start looking for it even during the peak of the Summer and whilst fishing a session when the temperature hit a barmy thirty plus degrees did the carp oblige every capture that session left my unhooking mat in a right state covered in Scopex Squid excrement, that was another sign which told me they were having it below is a gallery of some more of my captures, some of them being the lakes better fish Gallery..... Next month I'll wrap up my CM Angling 2021 blog for the year until then as always thanks for reading tight lines and happy angling October..... I've no doubt mentioned this in previous updates, so I apologise if I'm sounding repetitive? my new Club lake is now my full focus I maybe tempted to venture on my other water during the Winter? the carp in my new Club lake are without a doubt some of the hardest fighting carp I have angled for during twenty plus years of carp fishing, they are also predominantly common carp which to me is absolute heaven Wild carp..... All of my captures to date have been either of double figures or twenty pound plus I have no idea of the lakes exact stock which to me is magical the unknown IMO doesn't hurt any carp angler Fish on..... They clearly love their boilies, and I'm not surprised in the slightest how they have responded to the banquet which I have been dishing up all year Scopex Squid is a bait I have used for many years now both overseas and in the UK, and it's caught me hundreds if not thousands of carp? regarding the pop ups which I present my ever faithful Twisted Multi Rigs over the Scopex Squid, white has produced the more consistent results Twisted Multi Rigs..... The carp in this lake are of many different sizes, shapes and proportions, and one or two characters have graced my net along the way, one that stands out is a carp called Nelson, no guesses as to how it got it's name Nelson..... Before I sign of again for another month please enjoy the slide show below of some more of my Club lake captures Thanks for reading tight lines and happy angling September..... Bringing you up to speed in my last update I told you all that the UK was currently experiencing a heat wave July is now upon us and Summer has well and truly landed, the sun continues to shine, the water temperature is up, and the carp I'm pleased to say are up for a feed I'm continuing to angle on my new Club water, I haven't fished my other water for sometime now, the new water has somewhat pre occupied me I have nothing to tell any of you regards my rigs and bait, as the saying goes if it isn't broke? don't fix it! and I continue to use my ever faithful Twisted Multi Rigs and Scopex Squid Scopex Squid..... On the subject of Scopex Squid, I'm not one of those anglers who purchases a bag of bait and takes it straight to the waters edge my free offerings go through a process called glugging and glazing, it's very easy to do and this next section explains how you can also glug and glaze your chosen boilies I use stabilised Scopex Squid in 15mm, I then introduce around 5kg of bait to a bucket, the next job is to introduce a good amount of Scopex Squid syrup, making sure that every boilie is coated the final job is to add some Scopex Squid stick mix, this absorbs the syrup and leaves my free offerings with a lovely rough coating, I normally complete the glugging and glazing process a good twenty four hours before my session, which gives my free offerings more than enough time to take in all of the syrup which packs my bait with plenty of flavour this process is by no means cheap, but boy is it effective, it cloud's the water and the stick mix is reactive from the off when it hits the water, which ensures me their is plenty of activity being created on my chosen spots Glugging and glazing completed..... I previously mentioned in this update that the carp were up for a feed the gallery below displays the pick of my captures from July That's all I have to report this month I look forward to bringing you my August update next month, until then as always I appreciate everybody who reads my blog and for taking the time out to do so tight lines and happy angling August..... For the purpose of everybody reading this blog, these articles don't necessary correspond with the month titled at the top of the page, after addressing that let's crack on June has arrived and with it so has the weather, temperatures have rocketed and the UK is experiencing a heatwave far from ideal angling conditions but that did not deter yours truly temperatures where averaging between 28/30 degrees, I didn't fancy sitting in that all day, so I decided to visit my new Club lake from late afternoon and fish up until dusk the floater rod was packed into the car but being honest with you I'm not a great fan of surface fishing, I'd rather catch a carp off the bottom any day of the week the barmy temperatures had certainly deterred some of the other members, for the majority of June I angled alone or with very few others Billy no mates..... Being honest I thought the up and coming sessions were going to be a struggle, as you can imagine on arrival the carp were easy to find their was plenty enjoying the sunshine and cruising on the surface I had the pick of the swims to choose from due to the lack of angling pressure, and my thinking was to choose a swim which contained the bulk of the carp in it regardless if they were on the surface I had to wait until around 7/8pm but I'm pleased to say the carp responded to my weekly angling approach I even went onto capture one of the lakes rare mirrors as well as some more bars of gold The pick of this months captures..... For the purpose of anybody reading this blog who isn't familiar with my favoured presentation? that I call the Twisted Multi Rig simply view the picture below The Twisted Multi Rig..... The Multi Rig tied as standard don't get me wrong is very effective, but by adding shrink tubing and over shotting the pop up IMO it turns from an effective presentation to a devastating presentation I simply couldn't put a figure on as to how many carp the Twisted Multi Rig has caught me in the UK and in France over the years? maybe during the Winter I'll write more in depth regards carp rigs? until Septembers update as always thanks for reading tight lines and happy angling July..... I'm back on my new Club lake and the weather continues to be unsettled sun, wind, heavy showers and even hail, mother nature has well and truly thrown the kitchen sink at me It felt more like March..... My Wednesday session resulted in a blank I returned on the Thursday and was greeted to more unsettled weather, thanks to my Nash Profile X brolly I kept dry and was comfortable it was looking as if I was heading for a second blank? that was until my right hander sprung into life with just sixty minutes of the session remaining I was happy with this one..... Such a shame about the tail damage, apart from that this was a cracking common and my biggest capture from the new venue so far it just goes to show that it's never over until it's over, making sure that the rods are always the last things to get packed away the following week and conditions remained the same No change whatsoever..... But that hadn't put the carp off, as I went onto catch two more lovely commons and my first mirror from the new Club lake Two commons and a mirror..... Before I wrap things up for another month, as promised here's an update on a session I did on my other Club water it's never been an easy water, keeping updated with what's been going on thanks to the powers of Social Media I soon discovered that the venue had seriously got one on it, and it's resident carp were even more elusive as always you can't catch them at home, so when this one slipped up I was more than happy Lovely..... By no means a monster, but a common in superb condition until next months update, thanks for reading, tight lines and happy angling June..... Carrying on where I left off it's always nice to get the first carp under the belt from a new water, I drove home that evening with a big smile on my face the following week was visit number three to the new Club water, and on this session the weather had improved dramatically there wasn't a cloud in the sky, the sun was shining, and the air temperature was well into double figures during my lap around the lake, it was evident that a lot of carp were patrolling the margins and I found myself a lovely looking swim at the top of the lake under a over hanging tree A lovely looking swim..... The rods couldn't have been out for more than an hour when my right hander which was spotted in the margin was away Margin muncher..... After such a quick bite it wasn't until the final hour of the session that I experienced some more action, the same rod was away again The second common of the session..... Correct me if I am wrong? but I'm not sure if I have written about my favoured presentation which I use on all of my waters those of you who are avid readers of my blog? will know that it hasn't changed, and it's a presentation which I have the up most faith and confidence in nicknamed the Twisted Multi Rig, a size eight hook complemented with a twelve millimetre pop up, simple yet very effective! The Twisted Multi Rig..... Before I wrap things up for another month, a word on my other Club water I've been flip flopping and enjoyed the odd session still in-between fishing the new Club water, since I captured a brace in March the fishing has been very tough indeed saying that I did manage to capture a nice common from their only a few weeks ago, which I will write about in more detail in a future update until my July update, thanks for reading, happy angling and tight lines May..... Tuesday April 6th and the long wait to wet a line on a brand new Club water was finally over I actually joined the Club that controls my new venue back in November 2020 but shortly after joining the UK was as everybody reading this update knows is still in the thick of a global pandemic and the nation went into a three month lockdown Happy new Club lake day..... My first two sessions took place on as previously mentioned the 6th April and the 7th April and got off to a slow start the weather was truly awful, I experienced sub zero temperatures, rain, hale and even snow flurry's the only results I had to show for my efforts on both sessions were bream Snotter..... April 13th and I was back again, and this time the weather had considerably improved the weather had improved so much that IMO had put the carp in a stage of confusion? by midday I spotted numerous carp just beneath the surface and they were also acting very lethargic I wasn't sure regards the rules on surface fishing? and I didn't have any surface tackle at my disposal anyway but what I did have was some zig bits I constructed a zig and fished it just under the surface without any success around 3.00pm I began to experience some liners, and by 4.00pm I could clearly see that the resident carp were moving frequently up and down the margin I primed a lovely looking spot in the margin to my right, and by 4.30pm I had a rig in position by 5.15pm it was away, and my first carp from this pretty little venue was in the net Off the mark..... Not massive by any means, but I was delighted non the less to get off the mark I've been introducing my bait all over this small lake on average twice a week and the signs are clear that it's residents are starting to enjoy it but more about that next month as always thanks for reading and tight lines |
