( Nene Valley Nature Reserve ) On This Session I’m Joined With Another Great Friend Of Mine ( Nick Rudge ), We’d Hoped For A Slightly Earlier Departure But One Or Two Things Cropped Up But I’m Pleased To Say By Six O’clock We Had Both Arrived At The Venue With Plenty Of Time Still To Have A Good Look Around And Set Up. The Plan Was To Fish Three Corner Lake Which Is The Smaller Out Of The Three Lakes To Fish, But After A Good Look Around And Lack Of Carp Activity And Angler Pressure We Both Decided To Do The Night On The Lake The Other Side Of Three Corner Lake Which Is Called Long Lake, We Spoke To Head Bailiff Jay Who Told Us A Few Were Pulling Off On The Thursday Morning So We Both Agreed To Get Up Bright And Early The Following Morning And Then Possibly Move? ( Matt’s Swim On Long Lake ) ( Nick ) Opted For The Swim Next Door To My Left, As You Can Make Out From The Still Above We Both Hand A Large Bank Of Weed To Deal With In Front Of Us, So If We Did Manage To Connect With A Fish Bringing It Back Through That Lot Could Be A Problem? Hence The Reason Why My Rod Tips Were So High, Trying To Keep As Much Line Off The Weed Whilst My Rigs Were In The Water. Moving Swiftly On The Night For Me ( Matt ) Passed With Out Any Action, ( Nick ) Caught A Small Bream Thursday Morning Of Around Four / Five Pounds, As Mentioned Earlier We Awoke Nice And Early And Went Looking Over Three Corner Lake Once Again, And As Jay Said Some Anglers Had Departed, After Another Good Look Around And This Time Me And ( Nick ) Spotted Some Carp So Decision Made Were Moving. ( Matt’s Second Swim Of The Session ) ( Three Corner Lake ) ( Nick ) Once Again Dropped Into The Swim Next Door To My Right, Their Was A Lovely Warm Wind Blowing Right Into Us And After Checking The Weather It Was Set To Continue For The Duration Of Our Session. Weed Was Not So Much Of A Problem, More Like A Light Carpet Of Canadian Pond Weed, Which I Had No Problem In Presenting My Naked Chod Rig And Snowman Rigs In, I Could Also Sink My Lines And Fish Them Very Slack My Confidence In My Presentation Was Sky High!!! So Everything Was In Place And As Always I Sat Back With Coffee In Hand Water Watching, Not Just Carp Spotting But Also Enjoying The Other Aspect Of This Wonderful Sport And That’s Wild Life Spotting, And Being In The Grounds Of A Nature Reserve Their Was Plenty!!! ( Heron ) The Day Passed Un Eventful And Shortly After Dinner And With The Early Start Thursday Morning Starting To Take It’s Toll We Both Decided To Reside To Our Bivvies Quite Early That Evening, By Midnight I Was Up Again Awoken By The Sound Of A Delkim, The Visitor Plugging My String Was This Little Fella. ( Midnight Wake Up Call ) Getting Back Into The Back After Re Spotting The Rod And Smelling Of Bream Lovely :( During The Remainder Of The Evening / Early Morning The Wind Continued To Blow And Rain Followed Being Heavy At Times But Sadly Mr Carp Stayed Elusive . We Continued Fishing Up Until Early Afternoon But Pulled Off Around Three O’clock, No Carp But I Left With More Information And The Thinking I Have Obtained Another Piece To The Puzzle In Capturing My First Nene Valley Carp, Their Is Plenty Of Time Still And We Both Purchased A Winter Ticket And Will Be Fishing Through Autumn And Winter In Northampton This Year. Hopefully After Returning From France The Lake Will Have Switched On A Bit More? Until The Next Updates Tight Lines And Happy Angling Matt This Blog Also Comes With A Video Supplement

It’s Been Some Time Since I Did Some Angling Under The Stars, And Even Longer Since I’d Been Angling With A Friend I Have Known For Years Now! Myself ( Matt ) And ( Nick Rudge ) Hit The Road Around 3.00pm Weds Afternoon ( 10 7. 13 ) And Headed To Northampton And To Nene Valley Fisheries To Be Exact, A Water I ( Matt ) Have Had On The Radar For Sometime Now And One ( Nick ) Fished Around Twelve Months Ago. There Are A Large Volume Of Un Tapped Waters On The Complex Which Are Stunning! With The Time Available Myself And ( Nick ) Have Decided To Target One Of The Smaller Lakes The Complex Has To Offer Which Is Called Three Corner Lake ( Three Corner Lake ) We Had A Good Look Around And I Mean A Good Look For Nearly Up To Two Hours When We Arrived And Spoke In Length To Jason The Lad Who Runs The Complex, We Had A Nice Wind Blowing To The Left Of The Lake And Jason Said It Was A New Wind And Not To Be Ignored! So The Advice Was Taken On Board And Myself And ( Nick ) Found Two Swims Next To Each Other On That Area Of The Lake. The First Task Was To Lead About, In The Marginal Areas There Were Signs Of Canadian Pond Weed Which Lingered For Around A Rod Length From The Bank Before The Water Deepened. We Both Had A Good Lead About And Both Our Results Were The Same As We Found A Carpet Of The Same Weed All The Way Across Our Swims, Absolutley Nothing To Worry About And If You Didn’t Already Know? Canadian Is Not A Bad Weed To Present A Bait In! ( Rig Choice ) Now We Spoke In Length About This Through Our Journey To Northampton And Three Rigs Were Mentioned. * Snowman Rig * Withy Rig * Chod Rig ( Naked ) I Previously Mentioned ( Nick ) Had Fished Here Twelve Months Ago And He Had Some Good Success Banking Three Fish And All On The Snowman Presentation, Using Slow Sinking Baits And Rig Foam Ensuring His Rig Sits On Top Of The Weed. So As We Tackled Up And Dusk Began To Fall All Three Presentations Mentioned Above Were Cast To Likely Looking Areas And We Got Our Selves Settled For The Night Ahead. I’d Also Like To Mention At The Time Of Writing This Blog The UK Is Experiencing Some Very Warm Weather And In This Session We Had Highs From Twenty Eight To Thirty Degrees For It’s Duration, Far From Ideal Fishing Conditions In Our Opinion. ( Matt’s Swim ) The First Night Passed With Only A Good Nights Rest To Report Sadly, The Second Day Began With Overcast And Muggy Conditions, But Pleased To Say The Wind Was Still Hacking To Our Left, But By Ten O’clock The Sun Was Up High Again And Doing It’s Worse So The Decision Was Made To Reel In Pepper Our Areas With Free Offerings And Go Off Exploring, There Are A Numerous Amount Of Lakes And Carpy Looking Areas On The Complex The Stills Below Are A Few Shots Taken Whilst Walking ( Carpers Paradise ) After Exploring We Both Returned To Our Swims Early Afternoon And Consumed A Very Unhealthy Kebab Meat And Chips We Purchased From The Local Town. Rods Were Back On The Spots And Were To Be Left Until Around Eight When We’d Re Spot For The Second Night. Very Encouraging Signs Emerged On Our Return Certainly In ( Nick’s ) Swim Were We Both Saw At Least Six Shows All On The Far Side Of His Swim. Carp Were Present Which Was A Big Confidence Booster! Nothing Happened During The Afternoon And Most Of It Was Spent Water Watching, Lazing Around In The Sun, Chain Drinking Coffee And Numerous Carpy Chats. Rods And Spots Replenished For The Evening What Did Night Number Two Have In Store?……….. Answer……… Another Quiet Night, But By Nine The Sound Of A Steve Neville Bite Alarm Could Be Heard Which Was In ( Nick’s ) Swim, I Jogged The Short Journey To Arrive And See Him Landing One Of The Lakes Resident Tench. A Proper Dark And Typical Gravel Pit Tench We Never Weighed It But It Was Easily Seven Possibly Even Eight Pounds, Fin Perfect And Very Welcome GOOD ANGLING !!! ( Tinker Time ) ( Nick ) Has Caught Some Massive Tench In His Time Up To Twelve Pounds And This Is Another One Added To His Collection And It Saved The Blank! Shortly After The Sun Was Doing It’s Worse Again So We Packed Up And Hit The Road For Home. A Very Impressive Venue And We Are Both Already Planning The Return Session Until The Next Blog Tight Lines And Happy Angling Matt This Blog Also Comes With A Video Supplement |
