* Hook sharpening

Sharpening carp hooks has become a widespread practice in recent years

but what happens once you've done the hard work with a file, stone or what I use the Nash Pinpoint hook sharpener?

below is a nice little trick to keep your hooks in perfect nick

the sharpening process removes the hook's protective coating, which allows rust to take hold if untreated

depending on the make and pattern of hook you are using? some hooks and patterns can rust quicker than others

to prevent this a small amount of Coconut Oil

applied to the freshly sharpened point keeps it in tip top condition and ready for action

* Glugging and glazing

Being honest with everybody reading this piece

glugging and glazing is by no means a cheap way to prepare your chosen boilie

but it's effectiveness after preperation IMO is devastating.

The attraction level is of maximum capacity, which includes some serious pulling power, and it certainly keeps carp grubbing around your chosen spot for longer

to prepare this approach simply follow these simple guidelines...

1. If you use a shelflife boilie? simply introduce the required amount for your session to a round or square bucket

for frozen boilie users, simply thaw out the required amount and then follow the same process

2. Depending on your bait manufacturer? generously coat your free offerings in your baits matching glug

my preference is Nashbait, Nash produces a product called syrup, which is perfect for this approach

3. The final job to do after coating your boilies is to then coat your bait in a matching stick mix

this job can get a bit messy, as you will need to get your hands into make sure both the glug and stick mix

are throughly blended and all your boilies are coated

leave for 24 hours and they are ready to go

this approach can be used throughout all four seasons, just choose your bait to suit the time of the year and adjust quantity

* Multi rig loop threading

Multi Rig user

struggling to pull the loop through the eye of the hook?

these steps will make life so much easier...

* Trim off a small section of dental floss

* Feed floss through the loop on the rig

* Feed floss through the eye of the hook

* Pull the loop through

the days of frustration are over, saving you more time for tying Multi Rigs

* Coffee Tigers

For at least 90% of my angling my chosen free offerings and hook baits are boilies

but on the odd occasion I do use a particle, and as a hook bait Tiger Nut's are my number one choice

you can walk into any tackle shop in the UK, purchase a tin or a jar of Tiger's go fishing and catch

my Tiger's get a pimp

follow the process below on how to prepare my Coffee Tigers...

Step 1. Grab yourself a small container, the pop up shaped containers are Ideal

Step 2. Introduce enough Tiger Nut's for the duration of your session/session's

Step 3. Grab yourself a jar of coffee, the cheapest nastiest coffee you can find achieves the best results

Step 4. Introduce a good 3/4 heaped teaspoons off coffee to the container and make sure your Tigers are coated

Step 5. Introduce some tap water until all of your Tigers are submerged

Step 6. Tighten lid on container and leave your Tigers to soak, the longer the better

* Bait flossing

For at leat 80% of my angling I use pop ups

the decision I make regarding how I mount my pop up to my presentation is dependant on the duration of my session?

for short sessions I am more than happy to mount my pop up on a hair or a bait screw

but if the duration of my session is for 24 hours or longer, knowing my rods will be in situ for long periods?

my preffered approach is flossing, reasons being as soon as you pierce a bait either with a baiting needle or a bait screw?

you make an exit wound, which allows water to enter your bait and over a period of time will effect your baits buoyancy

flossing baits can be some what problematical for some people, I always use waxed dental floss which I find

grips to a bait much better than un waxed dental floss does

all my flossing is done at home well in advance of my time on the bank

saving time and making life a hell of a lot easier especially at night if a bait needs to be changed?

I also like to leave my pre flossed pop ups inside a pop up container which is filled with liquid IE a booster juice?

this will also soak into the floss increasing attraction
